Estée Lauder Futurist Hydra Rescue Foundation | Foundation Friday

Hello, and thank you for joining me! For this entry in the Foundation Friday series, I’ll be covering the Estée Lauder Futurist Hydra Rescue Foundation!

This foundation is the most luminous foundation I have tested out thus far, and I love how fresh and plump it’s making my dehydrated winter skin look. If this sounds interesting, keep reading for my favourite application, companion products, and who I think this will work best for.

Foundation Overview

Estée Lauder Futurist Hydra Rescue was initially launched in early 2020 in the US and is finally available here in Canada. I did not hesitate to order this foundation the day it was available on Sephora’s Canadian website!

Estée Lauder says this is a medium coverage foundation with a radiant finish; I achieved a naturally luminous look with the Estee Lauder Futurist Hydra Rescue with medium coverage that could be layered to full coverage.

Application Tips and Preferences

This foundation applies and blends like butter! With the four different application methods (see Brushes section below), the only difference I noticed was the level of coverage each process yielded. It’s safe to say that Estée Lauder has been the most enjoyable and most effortless foundation to apply that I have tried in a long time! If you are new to the liquid foundation, I think this would be an excellent foundation to start with as the foundation almost blends itself, so your risk of having a line of separation between where your makeup starts and ends will be minimal.

Wear Test

Day 1

·        La Roche-Posay Anthelios Dermo-Kids SPF 50

·        no primer

·        Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Setting Spray

For the first day, I used a damp beauty sponge and achieved a naturally luminous finish; the texture looked very smooth and plump. The concealer looked very soft as well.

I observed no change until after 12 hours, where I saw slight settling around the nose. The concealer looked slightly dry around the inner corner of the eye.

At the 15-hour mark, the settling around nose hadn’t progressed, but the chin started to look a little dry. Concealer looked slightly drier and texture at the inner third of the eye compared to the previous check-in.

Day 2

·        La Roche-Posay Anthelios Dermo-Kids SPF 50

·        Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer

·        Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Setting Spray

For the second day of wear, I used the Japonesque Fluff Concealer Brush and a dry sponge for application. The foundation had a healthy glow and a smooth appearance.

At the two-hour check-in, I noticed that the foundation and concealer looked slightly smoother than the previous day.

I noticed no further changes until the nine-hour mark, where the concealer looked slightly dry around the inner 1/4 of the eye.

After 12 hours, I found that the foundation had slightly settled around the corners of my nose; my forehead felt somewhat dry. However, the under-eye concealer hadn’t changed since the nine-hour mark.

Day 3

·        La Roche-Posay Anthelios Dermo-Kids SPF 50

·        Tatcha The Liquid Silk Canvas

·        Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Setting Spray

I tried the Sigma F82 Round Kabuki Brush for the foundation and the Japonesque Fluff Concealer Brush for the concealer for the third day. My initial impression of the application was that it had a smooth, luminous, glowy finish.

On this day, I wore a mask for four hours in the afternoon. Checking in at the six-hour mark, I noticed that the foundation had completely faded along my cheek and nose where the mask was sitting. Other than that, it looked and felt great.

After 13 hours, I saw further sheering out of the foundation around where the mask had earlier worn away the product.

Day 4

·        La Roche-Posay Anthelios Dermo-Kids SPF 50

·        Beauty Blender Leveler Primer

·        Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Setting Spray

·        Japonesque Fluff Concealer

After the success I had the previous day with the Japonesque Fluff Concealer, I decided to apply both the foundation and concealer brush, smoothing it out with a damp beauty sponge. The result was glowing smooth perfection.

I noticed minor signs of settling in corners of the nose at the five-hour mark – earlier than previous days. The only difference I can think of is that the Beauty Blender Leveler Primer is intended for smoothing and pore-filling instead of a grippy, tacky primer designed to hold onto the product.

After 12 hours, the foundation had settled into the corners of my nose but still felt and looked great on the rest of my face.

The concealer, meanwhile, felt great and looked nice all day long!

Day 5

·        La Roche-Posay Anthelios Dermo-Kids SPF 50

·        Tatcha The Silk Canvas Protective Primer

·        Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Setting Spray

·        IT Cosmetics Heavenly Luxe Complexion Perfection #7

I decided to switch it up slightly with the primer and application, using both ends of the IT Cosmetics Heavenly Luxe Complexion Perfection #7 brush for the foundation and concealer. The finish was very smooth, very plump, and very luminous. A quick check-in different lighting revealed no settling, no creasing – everything looked great!

I didn’t notice any change until the eight-hour mark when I saw that the concealer had worn away around the outer corner of my eyes since they had been watering due to some environmental dryness and irritation. Also, the cheeks' coverage had decreased by about 50% but wasn’t patchy and still looked nice.

After 12 hours, the coverage had sheered out completely on the cheeks, while the under-eyes looked drier than any previous day. However, my face still felt very comfortable, and the product had faded very gracefully.

Is the Estée Lauder Futurist Hydra Rescue Foundation Right for You?

I think the Estée Lauder Futurist Hydra Rescue Foundation could work for any skin type as long as you are looking for a more radiant finish. The Estée Lauder Futurist wore exceptionally well with or without a face primer and lasted past the 12-hour mark on each of the five days I tested it.

Downsides of the Estée Lauder Futurist Hydra Rescue Foundation

The Estée Lauder Futurist Hydra Rescue does have fragrance listed towards the bottom of the ingredient deck (I could not smell anything during my application or wear), so if you are sensitive to fragrance, I would suggest trying a sample first. Even though this foundation wore beautifully for 12-plus hours, it did transfer to my face mask, so that will be a deal-breaker for some. If you prefer a more matte finish, then this foundation may be too radiant for you.

Mini-Reviews!

NARS Soft Matte Complete Concealer in Crème Brulee

This concealer was fantastic! Yes, towards the end of the day during my testing, I felt slightly dry and saw slightly emphasized texture after around 12 hours. Still, it wore really well before that point, looked smooth, and this particular shade was the perfect hybrid of concealer and corrector. I’m beyond thrilled with how well this concealer performed.

NARS Highlighting Powder in Capri

I cannot understand why more people aren’t talking about this highlighter! NARS Capri highlighter is a stunning neutral cool colour with a good payoff that isn’t overwhelming. I adore how this highlight reflected light brilliantly, but it never emphasized skin texture.

NARS Matte Bronzing Powder in Vallarta

This is a gorgeous bronzer, and I think the colour will be perfect for spring. The colour is a warm coral-ish light brown, and the product blends seamlessly; however, you need to ensure your liquid products are properly set, or it will stick to areas of dampness, and blending it out can be kind of tricky. I like this bronzer and could see myself using it again – but if the colour were just slightly more neutral, it would be a new favourite!

NARS Powder Blush in Behave

I adored this colour from the moment I first tested it! If you have watched any of my makeup application videos, then you know I love it when blush and bronzer colours fade into each other for a realistic sun-flushed look. This blush is perfect for that type of look, and I couldn’t be happier!

In my experience, almost all of the NARS blush colours apply really well, and the colour selection has something for everyone. If you have similar blush preferences to me and you are looking for a satin matte blush in a pinky mauve colour, then look no further!

Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter Luxury Eyeshadow Palette in Star Aura

Initially, I would save this palette for another video after I featured it in my weekly haul video, but I couldn’t wait! My husband says this palette looks like nothing on the eyes, but I say it looks perfect.

Each of the four shades has a glossy, almost wet-looking sheen on the eyes and has the most ethereal transparency. I love this palette for creating an “I woke up like this” natural smokey eye look. This palette is rumoured to be a limited edition, so if you want it, then you might need to grab it quickly.

·        Prime (top left) – neutral champagne

·        Enhance (top right) – warm pinky peach

·        Smoke (bottom right) – slightly olive mid-tone golden brown

·        Define (bottom left) – this colour is very similar to MAC’s Mulch eyeshadow, but it’s more of a luxurious sheen. The colour is a medium-dark neutral plummy brown.

NARS Afterglow Tinted Lip Balm in Fast Lane

This colour is more of a purple-pink sheer nude, where I was expecting a more slightly cool nude pink colour. I feel the purple hint causes my teeth to look a little dull, so I offset the colour with a slightly warmer undertone. The application is very smooth, feels very lightweight and hydrating on the lips. With the product being more of a glossy balm, it comes off pretty easily when eating or drinking. I think this is great for anyone who wants an easy colour to apply for laid-back wear – watch out for that transfer!

Thank you so much for spending your time with me today! I have really enjoyed wearing this foundation, and I am so happy to have it in my collection finally. If you decided to try this foundation out, I hope you love it as much as I do, and I would love to know how it worked for you.

Warm Wishes

Zack
